Light the Way
Solo interaction design project centering on the principle of entrapment. Light the Way (2006) takes form of a maze in a closed space. The maze is composed of tall walls scattered in a random formation throughout the structure. On each wall lie a series of embedded buttons flashing in a dull orange colour. The buttons act as the primary mode of user-input and interaction. Upon contact, the buttons will flash one of two other colours, red or green. This dictates whether the user is moving in the right direction to reaching the exit.

Colour Grid
Solo interaction design project for interactive sound-art installation. Colour Grid (2006) is a concept which was inspired by the popular Twister. It was established to fufill a desire to create an activity which would be beneficial on a range of levels for children aged 6-12. It is an activity which would not only be fun to play but will also help develop and improve motor skills and cognitive memory.

Audio Project: Virtual Soundscape
Virtual Soundscape (2007) is a group project created to explore the relationship between sound, visual imagery and mood. The prototype consists of six modes of sound input, microphones and a digital spectrograph powered by a PC and audio interface and an LCD to demonstrate the inputted audio data in a visually eloquent manner. Influenced by the works of Chion, Battey and Rodaway, the design concept was fusion of each author’s understanding of how audio connects with human perception.
Video Project: Pandora’s Box
Pandora's Box (2007) is a collaborative project which
aims to test the limits of human fear and perception. The desktop exhibit was
to consist of a large black box with an in-built camera, LCD monitor and a computer.
The user would be invited to place their hand into the box. Upon doing so, the
LCD will automatically switch on. A pseudo “inner view” of the box
will be generated. The user will be met with a screen showing their hand amongst
a legion of creepy crawlies. A tracking camera, LCD and Arduino board and accompanying
software will facilitate for the real-time processing of further hand movements
and the general re-production of a realistic scenario. The design idea in a
nutshell is essentially a play on human perception and our attraction to all
things scary.
Marinamorphia

Marinamorphia is a collaborative interactive installation which utilises RFID technology to educate primary school children about biology in an enjoyable manner. The prototype will consist of a rug-size mat embedded with RFID readers, nine pairs of thongs embedded with RFID tags and piezzo buzzers. Users will be faced with a rug-size mat representing a marine food web. The mat will contain arrows and watermarked footprints which illustrate the food web. Users will be invited to play the role of the marine species by “filling in the gaps”. By donning the RFID tag embedded thongs (of which each pair represents a different marine species) and physically positioning themselves on the watermarked areas between the arrows, users are able to form and complete the web. Audio feedback in the form of a “ding” will be given if the positioning of the user is correct. Conversely, if incorrect the user will simply hear a “buzz” informing them of their mistake. Users can continuously shift and re-locate themselves until the food web is correctly completed. Once this stage is reached, audio feedback in the form of continuous chiming will be emitted to congratulate the users on their success.
